French Art Deco Rosewood and Black Lacquer Sideboard/Cabinet

French Art Deco Rosewood and Black Lacquer Sideboard/Cabinet

12,475.00

This rare and exquisite streamlined cabinet in book-matched rosewood was realized in France, circa 1930, at the height of the Art Deco movement. It features two side cabinets and a spacious centre cabinet providing a wealth of storage. The top has a bevelled edge in black lacquer, on which another shelf rests. Additionally, the cabinet has its original chromed ball pulls (as well as chrome fittings throughout) and its original keys for each cabinet. These gilded keys have a Baroque pattern, which pays tribute to genres of the past from which the clean, simplified lines of Art Deco emerged. With its skyscraper composition, dynamic asymmetries and contrasting rounded and geometric forms, this piece is an expression of early Modernist Machine Age design at its best. It remains as timeless today as when it was created nearly a century ago. This represents a great find for any connoisseur of Art Deco, or simply for someone with a penchant for truly exquisite objects. Mint restored condition.
