About

This exquisite display case was realized by the esteemed French maker Vernis Martin in the mid 19th Century. Created in the manner of Louis XVI, it features an ormolu body with an abundance of baroque details. Consisting of a demilune form, the top features a border with scrolling foliate details. Below the glass display window fitted with two shelves, there is a Rococco vignette featuring a male figure donning a crimson beret wooing a female figure who wears a pale rose colored dress as they sit on a patch of grass below an oak tree with a pond in the background. Framing this central panel, are two curved side tableaus of the French countryside. The piece is supported by four ormolu cabriolet style legs that form the structural beams of the piece and culminate in four architectural embellishments- suggestive of a figurehead on the prow of a ship- depicting a female head. There are floral and foliate carved detailing throughout the piece, testifying to its impeccable craftsmanship. Additionally, the piece is secured with the original lock and key. This is a stunning piece that would be a winning addition in any style of decor. It is in very good vintage condition, with wear consistent of age (more than one hundred years old) and use.
