This beautiful Machine Age Art Deco desk or occasional chair was realized in the United States, circa 1935. It features a channeled skyscraper style back; straight front legs and gently angled klismos style hind legs; a triangular centre splat with a cut out that reiterates the form of the centre; and three cylindrical stretchers connecting the spindles- all realized in lustrous black lacquer. Additionally, there are curvilinear cylindrical supports running from the back to the front legs- which serve as both an aesthetic and functional enhancement. The streamlined rectangular seat features a black lacquer apron and has been newly reupholstered in smoked platinum velvet. With its impeccable attention to detail and quintessential Art Deco design motifs (and materials) this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of the period. Its clean modernist lines and neutral palate also make it as versatile as it is aesthetically pleasing, blending perfectly with any style of interior from classic Deco to contemporary. It has been newly reupholstered and restored to mint condition.
