Pair of Mid-Century Modern Ebonized Walnut Side or Desk Chairs by Paul McCobb

3,975.00

This sculptural and elegant pair of side/ desk chairs was realized by the celebrated Mid-Century Modern designer, Paul McCobb, circa 1960. They feature atomic hourglass form backs connect to stiles with circular tops that graduate into rectangular forms with rounded corners. The stiles expand in diameter to the seat, while tapering inward at an angle. The stiles and legs hind legs consist of a single piece of whittled walnut that taper in diameter to the floor while flaring outward in a subtly splayed form. The straight front legs repeats the form of the hind legs to which they connect via a rectangular support with rounded sides. The domed seat has been newly reupholstered in highly textural dove grey fabric with inflections of slate and shell hues. Created by one of the legends of midcentury design, these chairs are as timeless as they are beautiful, blending seamlessly with any style of interior. They would be perfect as either desk or occasional chairs. Mint restored condition. Each chair retains its original manufacturer label and plaque reading "Calvin Furniture Company Grand Rapids/ Furniture Designed by Paul McCobb." Available individually for $2250 each.
