14,975.00

This exceptional and rare "Amoeba" cork-top cocktail table was realized by Paul Frankl- the illustrious Austrian-American Mid-Century Modernist/ Art Deco designer- for Johnson Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan circa 1948. Frankl's sophisticated yet causal aesthetic attracted the Hollywood elite of the period, garnering clients that included Fred Astaire, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, and Alfred Hitchcock. This table- created before his designs were mass-produced- features a biomorphic cork top with lacquered cream finish presenting an exquisite craquelure throughout and elegantly sloped mahogany legs. This is not only a rare and important piece of American Mid-Century Modern design, but it is in truly excellent condition- a must have for any serious collector of the period. The last and closest comparable to this piece sold at Wright Auction House in 10 December 2015 for $19,200.
