Documented Pair of Karl Springer Bullet Style Uplights in Radiant Brass

Documented Pair of Karl Springer Bullet Style Uplights in Radiant Brass

8,475.00

These Bullet style uplights are not only in excellent condition, but documented in the Karl Springer catalogue. They are a fine example of Springer's ouevre, "non-doctrinaire idiom of bold proportions, highly exotic finishes, and a sometimes flashy palette (1)" that made him one of the most exciting and iconoclastic figures in interior design throughout the latter half of the 20th century. The pair features a conical form in radiant brass with angled tops and a rectilinear grate on the inside of the opening. The fixtures also include the rewired original switch- a circular brass box that echoes the conical form of the uplight body in miniature. These are not only exquisite uplights, but iconic and important pieces of design history, sure to delight any collector of late midcentury Modernism. Springer's designs were coveted by royalty, design cognoscenti and society's elite, including Jackie Onassis, the Duchess of Windsor and Tina Turner, from the late 1960s to his passing in 1989. His pieces are as prized now- if not more because of their heightened exposure- as ever before. These uplights represent a particularly stunning and emblematic examples of his practice. They have been newly rewired and are in excellent condition.
