J. M. F. Floor Lamp in Grisaille Toned Faux Python Skin by Karl Springer

J. M. F. Floor Lamp in Grisaille Toned Faux Python Skin by Karl Springer

4,475.00

This stunning and dramatic lamp was realized by Karl Springer- one of the most celebrated American designers of the latter half of the 20th century, circa 1975. Springer very much inspired by Art Deco forms, based this lamp off a design by Salvador Dali for Jean-Michel Frank (thus named the J.M.F.), but updated it with modern materials: chrome and faux python skin. Springer famously remarked that he liked his materials to be "really out there, screaming." Springer brought back Jean-Michel Frank's Classic floor lamp for a modern audience as an iconic object once more. Springer, after all, is largely credited for reviving the popularity of shagreen, formally associated with Frank.

The piece offers a twisting and tapered rectangular columnar form wrapped in grisaille toned faux python that ascends from a square polished chrome base. This table lamp looks as new and fresh today as when it was created more than forty years ago. It has been fitted with two Edison based bulbs providing up to 200 watts of light. It has been newly rewired to American standards. It comes fitted with a custom drum shade. Excellent condition.
