This sophisticated Mid-Century Modern floor lamp was designed by the influential 20th century luminary Jacques Adnet in France, circa 1950. It features a bronze circular base with a cylindrical body ascending from the center. The lower portion of the body is bronze, while the majority of the cylindrical form is wrapped in cognac leather handstitched with white thread. Additionally, there is a cylindrical bronze embellishment about three quarters of the way to the top of the body. The original shade consists of a Fine rectilinear patterned burlap in a camel hue with four vertical slats connecting the top and bottom circular components of the shade- all wrapped in handstitched cognac leather. Adnet exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. Espousing a distinctly Avant Garde sensibility, Adnet and was among the first to integrate metal and glass elements into his furniture designs. He is one of the most influential and important designers of French 20th century design. With its clean modernist lines and austere form, this piece embodies the qualities that discerning collectors cherish in his practice. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary. Excellent vintage condition.
