About

This elegant game table was realized by Gilbert Rohde- one of the most celebrated American designers of the 20th century- circa 1939. It features conical legs with antique brass wrapped details at their top; an inlaid chess board realized from white holly and paldao with a walnut border; and subtly concave sides with rounded corners. There are four circular depressions, finished in black lacquer, around the perimeter of the board- perfect for holding drinks. This piece demonstrates the quiet sophistication of Rohde's design aesthetic at its very best. With its clean lines and old world craftsmanship, this piece represents the very beginnings of the mid century design aesthetic- the passing of the torch from deco to modernism. it would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. It is in mint restored condition.
