These iconic and dramatic sconces were designed by Karl Springer- one of the most important and influential designers of the 20th century- in America circa 1970. They feature demilune tops with bowed sides. Streamlined and illuminated Lucite embellishments of staggered heights and depths descend from the shade creating an iconically Art Deco skyscraper motif. They connect to the shade via a rectangular cutout with a concave detail at its top. The Lucite embellishments have curved incisions recurring across their tops that imbues them with a subtle dynamism. Karl Springer was celebrated for reviving Classic Art Deco designs and updating them for a modern audience, making them relevant once again. These sconces are an iconic and timelessly elegant example of his practice that appear as au courant today as when they were realized nearly forty years ago. With their clean modernist lines and materials, these sconces are as versatile as they are aesthetically appealing, blending perfectly with any style of interior from Classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary. They have been newly rewired and are in excellent vintage condition. They appear documented in the photos attached.
