Demilune Side Table in Carpathian Elm by Donald Deskey for Widdicomb Co.

Demilune Side Table in Carpathian Elm by Donald Deskey for Widdicomb Co.

3,975.00

This important (and striking) side table was realized by Donald Deskey- the legendary American designer of Radio City Music Hall- for the Widdicomb Company, circa 1935. Executed in book-matched Carpathian elm- that displays a stunning natural woodgrain- the piece features two stylized tapered obelisk pulls in bronze and spacious side-hinged drawers with ebonized interiors. The skyscraper style base has been coated in black lacquer offering a tonal (and textural) counterpoint to the rich burled woodgrain throughout. Additionally, there are two open compartments, bisected by an elm cross support. With its clean lines and streamlined form, this side table explains why Deskey's pieces are just as sought after and celebrated now as when they were created some 80 years ago. Mint restored condition.
