Mid-Century Paul Frankl Cerused Oak Chest of Drawers & X-Form Brass Pulls
This stately Mid-Century Paul Frankl perused Oak Chest of Drawers w/ Legs & X-Form Brass Pulls originated in the United States, circa 1945. The compact two drawer case presents bold, bookmatched oak grain across the drawer fronts and a shallow mitered frame around the top, with a crisply molded perimeter that lends architectural clarity to the silhouette. A low recessed plinth supports four outward splayed tapered legs that give the piece a poised uplifted stance while maintaining a grounded proportion. Each drawer is fitted with a paired X-Form brass pull set at the center, the slender crossed bars providing a refined metallic accent against the warm oak surface. This chest displays a smooth satin finish that accentuates the wood figure and the linear grain pattern, and the drawer faces align precisely within their openings to present a calm cohesive front. The top and case edges are subtly chamfered and detailed with fine banding that reflects careful cabinetmaking and reinforces the piece's disciplined geometry. Subtle sculptural cues and restrained ornamentation underscore the vocabulary Paul Frankl favored in his 1940s studio work. The piece is in mint restored condition.
