Modernist Sea Urchin Spine Mirror in Sculpted Brass by Karl Springer

Modernist Sea Urchin Spine Mirror in Sculpted Brass by Karl Springer

$8,475.00

This Mirror designed by Karl Springer is a potent example of nature’s constant and inseparable influence on designers and the art they produce. Designed and fabricated in the United States Circa 1980, this piece is framed in stunning Sea Urchin Spines, sourcing their brilliant hues from naturally occurring pigments called carotenoids. These pigments produce the brilliant earthy reds and violets that sing alongside the brass wrapped outer and inner edges of the mirror, the inner edge curves inward toward the beautifully beveled inset mirror glass. The outside edge of the mirror is precisely circumscribed in brass, bracing the living energy of the spines. Hard as stone and beautifully organic in form, the materiality and craftsmanship of the piece make it a stand out example of 20th Century Art and Design. This Mirror makes a sophisticated and winning addition to an array of interiors and styles, as unique as it is versatile. In excellent vintage condition.
