This striking mixed media work, entitled "Maya the Wonderful" was realized in the United States during the mid 20th Century. It offers an austere composition, whose effect is far greater than its parts. The work is created from an overlaid sinuously curved paper form airbrushed in a dark charcoal hue and overlaid upon the background (of the same material). This undulating abstract band adjoins another lighter grisaille amorphic form to create the silhouette of a female form with pronounced hips and breasts created through the two organic circular moments of negative space. The two forms meet to form her head (body and soul, in unison, perhaps). With its clean modernist lines and dramatic form, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. It comes presented in a custom gallery frame and is in excellent vintage condition.
