Michael Brangoccio Inherent #1
Michael Brangoccio Inherent #1
This refined mixed media work was realized by the esteemed American artist Michael Brangoccio in 1986. Realized in the manner of Robert Motherwell, this painting features laid paper and applied pigments against a natural canvas background. A black rectangular form sits in the center of the canvas with a white block of negative space in the top half of it filled with abstract expressionist hieroglyphic-like scrawling (reminiscent of a Jackson Pollock moment). In the bottom half of this black four sided figure, sits a piece of ecru lain paper offering another solid block of color, and offering a subtle material juxtaposition. This piece offers wonderfully subtle textural contrasts throughout- from the subtle weft of the canvas to the various grains of the lain paper- testifying to the artist's mastery of the materials employed. With its beautifully refined color palate and austere modernist composition, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. It is signed "Michael Brangoccio '86" in the bottom right hand corner. It is in excellent condition.
