The gilt bronze mountainside on which the archers stands is is sculpted with the same attention to detail as the figure. One observes beautiful edges and natural variation in and what seems to be the edge of a cliff, as well as the smallest pebbles and surface details, no least of which is the signature of the artist. Beneath the mountain side the entire sculpture rests on a black marble base achieved with remarkable precision, and balancing the gleaming characteristic of the gilt bronze with its deep and attractive hue and subtle white veining visible within.
